Balli Nari

The Predator in the Vines

“In the heart of the hills, innocence met its end.”

01

The Story

A story rooted in the hills.

Synopsis

Balli Nari is a fictional drama set in the mist-covered hills of Kodagu. A young girl walks home from school on a day meant for celebration. What begins as the start of a future becomes the start of a question this region has been afraid to ask.

The series follows the days that surround that walk — the rumours, the silences, the elders who look away, and the rage that gathers when a refusal becomes a wound. None of the names in the film are real. The shadow they cast is.

The film does not point at one place or one family. It asks the wider question — about the “Nari” that lurks not in the forest, but within society, in the form of forced marriages and the violence that follows rejection.

02

Symbology

Two creatures. One forest. The danger is the one in the village.

The Vine

Balli

Innocence, fragility, and the natural world. A vine is life seeking sunlight, trusting the tree it clings to. It symbolizes the young victim, intertwined with the land she called home.

The Predator

Nari

The cunning Jackal. A metaphor for the predator hiding in plain sight. It speaks to the betrayal of trust and the hidden dangers lurking within the familiar comfort of society.

03

Impact & Awareness

Cinema as a catalyst for change.

We believe cinema can be a catalyst for change. Balli Nari is more than a story — it is an attempt to break the silence that shelters predatory violence inside our communities, and to support initiatives that protect children and empower the vulnerable.

Forced child marriage is illegal in India. If you or someone you know needs help, please contact local authorities immediately.

In Memory of the Lost Innocence

For every silence we have kept,
